Iraq arrests three in Baghdad and Diyala drug raids, seizes 2 kg of crystal meth

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's National Security Service said three people were arrested and about 2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine were seized in two separate anti-narcotics operations in the capital Baghdad and Diyala province. The agency said one suspected drug trafficker was taken into custody at the Al-Louq checkpoint in Baghdad following intelligence work and judicial authorization. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to storing narcotics at his home, and a tactical team later raided the address and seized 1.5 kilograms of crystal meth, according to the statement. In a second operation, two suspects — including a woman — were tracked and caught in flagrante at the Al-Ghalibiyya checkpoint in Ba'qubah, Diyala. Officers recovered approximately half a kilogram of crystal meth from the pair, the agency said. The National Security Service said legal proceedings have been initiated against all three suspects.
