Over one million visitors attend Basra mosque commemoration events

BASRA, Iraq — The Hatbat al-Imam Ali Mosque in the Zubair district west of Basra hosted religious events marking the death anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad, drawing more than one million visitors over two days, according to the mosque's director, Ali Baghdadi. Pilgrims traveled from central Basra and surrounding districts and subdistricts, with attendees also arriving from other Iraqi cities. Around 800 volunteers supported the program in coordination with security, service and health units. Organizers directed the flow of visitors along designated routes and deployed 250 service convoys along roadways to distribute meals and water. Medical teams and ambulances were placed on standby for emergencies. Security and service personnel remained on duty through the end of the events, Baghdadi said.
