BAGHDAD, Iraq โ One woman was killed and another person wounded on Wednesday when a family dispute escalated into an armed clash in a village in the Khanaqin district of northeastern Diyala province, local security sources said.
According to the sources, the altercation fell within a family dispute classified as "nahwa," a category of tribal conflict under Iraqi customary law. The dispute turned violent, leaving a woman dead and another individual injured.
Security forces cordoned off the village and launched a search operation to detain the suspect. The sources said efforts to arrest the perpetrator and hand him over to the judiciary were ongoing.
The incident occurred in a village in the rural area northeast of Khanaqin, near the Iraqi-Iranian border.
