BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The Iraqi dinar strengthened against the US dollar in evening trading on a public holiday, as interbank currency transactions continued despite the central bank's closure. The dollar had moved above earlier levels during the day before reversing course in late sessions, market participants said.
With the Central Bank of Iraq silent on the move, traders pointed to limited dollar liquidity typical of holiday periods as a key factor behind the price swings. Money market specialists said the intraday movement was driven by short-term supply and demand.
Officials noted that dollar liquidity can thin during official holidays, when fewer institutions are active. Regional sources continue to publish daily currency updates.
