BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraq's Security Media Cell said the government's program to consolidate weapons under state control is progressing through structured institutional stages, reinforcing security and stability across the country. Cell chief Brigadier General Saad Maan said in a written statement that the weapons file is a core element of the government program and is being pursued under a framework rooted in the constitution and current laws. Maan said the Permanent National Committee for Weapons Regulation and State Control, operating under the Ministry of Interior, continues its work with representatives from the Supreme Judicial Council, security agencies and supporting ministries. According to his statement, the first stage produced a comprehensive database, while the second stage registered household-held weapons through 854 registration offices at local police centers in all areas outside the Kurdistan Region. Maan added that bringing arms and security decisions under a unified state framework is a foundational element in building Iraq's institutional structure and supports its national defense strategy.
