BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” The Sadiqun parliamentary bloc has formally requested an emergency session of Iraq's Council of Representatives following attacks on multiple Hashd al-Shaabi headquarters across several cities. The request, signed by 28 MPs, asks the parliamentary leadership to convene an extraordinary session within 48 hours and to summon Prime Minister Ali Zeydi along with the defense and foreign ministers, the national security adviser, the head of the Popular Mobilization Forces and the director of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service to brief lawmakers. The strikes, which targeted Hashd al-Shaabi facilities in seven cities on 29 July 2026, killed at least 20 people and wounded 32, with material damage also reported. The bloc is calling for the formation of a joint parliamentary inquiry committee drawn from the security, defense, foreign relations, legal and martyrs and victims commissions, with a mandate to investigate the incident and review the country's air defenses. The committee is expected to submit its findings within 15 days. The request additionally includes setting a timeline for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq, filing complaints with the UN Security Council, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the transmission of formal diplomatic protests. The Sadiqun bloc also asked that two draft laws concerning the service and retirement arrangements and institutional structure of the Hashd al-Shaabi be placed on the legislative priority list.
