A member of Ansar Allah's political bureau, Hezzam al-Asad, has condemned what he described as a Saudi-US attack on the Iraqi people, calling it a savage act. In remarks carried on Monday, al-Asad said the strikes were part of a long-running pattern of targeting Iraq and its population by Saudi Arabia and the United States. He linked the campaign to the Second Gulf War and Iraq's subsequent invasion, accusing Saudi Arabia and the US of sending thousands of Takfiri suicide bombers into Iraq and fueling chaos and instability through the use of terrorist groups, actions he said continue to this day. Al-Asad said the attacks reaffirm Iraq's right to defend its sovereignty and resist any aggression directed at the country. He called on Arab and Islamic states and the international community to openly condemn the strikes. Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis, is a Yemeni armed movement that controls much of northern Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa, and has been at war with a Saudi-led coalition since 2015.
