US Treasury sanctions 10 Iran-linked firms and 8 oil tankers over Strait of Hormuz use

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The U.S. Treasury Department added 10 Iran-linked companies and 8 oil tankers to its sanctions list, citing efforts to prevent Iran from using the Strait of Hormuz to support its economy. The designations were announced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control and target shipping and maritime services tied to Iranian oil exports. The sanctioned companies include Hong Kong-based Billion Nexus International, a branch of Sailing International Trading in Agaléga Island, Confident Apex, Hormuz Marine Services in Bandar Abbas, Marine Nova Shipping, Nevada Spirit, Ocean Tranquility, Ferde Gulf Maritime Insurance Company, Chi Hang Ship Management and Fast Mighty. Eight oil tankers were also added, including the Salmi, previously flagged in Panama, the Breeze under the Barbadian flag, the Crystal under Vanuatu, a Mozambican-flagged vessel and additional tankers registered in Barbados, Vanuatu and the Marshall Islands. Secondary sanctions will be imposed on Hormuz Marine Services and Ferde Gulf Maritime Insurance Company, according to the Treasury announcement.
