Baghdad Municipality has launched a wide inspection campaign to monitor and prevent the random slaughter of sheep and livestock as Eid al-Adha approaches. The municipal spokesman said all local units have been deployed in the field and are tracking slaughter carried out outside official abattoirs.
Those who violate the rules will face legal action, and the animals used in the violations will be seized and sold at auction, the municipality said. The campaign is part of an effort to tighten control over slaughter practices ahead of the holiday.
Health teams also reminded residents that hygiene rules must be observed during slaughter. They said the aim is to help prevent cases of hemorrhagic fever.
