US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack Appointed Special Envoy for Iraq

ANKARA, Türkiye — U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed the current U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, to serve as the Special Envoy for Iraq. Barrack will retain his position as ambassador in Ankara while assuming the new diplomatic responsibilities. President Trump stated that the appointment aims to advance strategic cooperation with the Iraqi government and strengthen bilateral relations. Barrack will operate with the full support of the U.S. Department of State in his dual capacity. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the appointment, noting that Barrack will continue to play a leading role for the administration in both Syria and Iraq. Rubio emphasized that Barrack’s expertise and understanding of the 'America First' agenda will remain central to U.S. objectives in the region.
