NANKHAM, Myanmar — A blast in Kaungtob village in Nankham district near Myanmar’s border with China killed at least 46 people and wounded 74, officials said. The explosion happened in a building where explosives used for mining work were being stored.
Rescue teams said six of the dead were children, and the wounded were taken to a local hospital. Health workers said more than 100 homes were damaged by the force of the explosion.
China’s state broadcaster CCTV said initial findings indicated the blast occurred in a warehouse holding a large quantity of explosives. The Tang National Liberation Army said it had opened an investigation into the explosives, identified as jelgnit, stored at the site.
