U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard plans to step down at the end of June 2026, citing her husband’s health problems and the need to support him after he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. She conveyed the decision to President Donald Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office at the White House.
Gabbard said her final day in office will be 30 June 2026. In her resignation letter, she expressed deep gratitude for being appointed to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
She said she and her team had made progress on increasing transparency and restoring integrity within the intelligence community. Gabbard also said significant work remains to be done at the agency.
Gabbard said she intends to complete her term before leaving the post.
