U.S. President Donald Trump said he will not accept a bad agreement with Iran as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue, insisting that the draft now under discussion is entirely different from the โbad dealโ reached during the Obama era. He said the talks are proceeding in a regular and constructive manner.
Trump said sanctions will remain in place until an agreement is signed. He also argued that Iran must not be allowed to develop or possess nuclear weapons.
The statement came one day after Trump announced a framework agreement that included opening the Strait of Hormuz. He thanked Middle East countries for their support and cooperation.
Separately, Israeli officials were reported to be concerned about a U.S.-Iran agreement that does not address Iranโs nuclear program.
