KYIV, Ukraine โ Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv in the early hours of Thursday killed at least eight people and wounded 33, Ukrainian local officials said. The attack damaged buildings across the capital and caused power outages.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said on Telegram that residents were trapped in an apartment building and fires broke out at multiple locations in the city. He added that non-residential facilities, warehouses and a children's hospital were hit. Witnesses reported hearing more than a dozen explosions across the capital, according to Reuters.
Russia and Ukraine have exchanged strikes on a near-daily basis since Moscow's full-scale invasion in February 2022. Diplomatic efforts involving the United States and European countries have so far failed to produce a lasting ceasefire.
No further details were immediately available on the extent of the damage or any follow-up operations.
