MOSCOW โ Russia warned of the risk of a major disaster after what it said was a Ukrainian drone attack on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Dmitriy Medvedev, deputy head of Russia's Security Council, said destructive damage to the turbine hall or the reactors could lead to a new Chernobyl.
Aleksey Lihachev, head of Russia's state nuclear energy agency, said the strike targeted the turbine hall of the plant's sixth unit. He said the attack left a hole in the turbine hall wall, but did not damage the main equipment.
The comments came after the reported strike on the plant, which Russia said was hit by a drone. No further details were immediately available from the text about casualties or additional damage.
