Red buses offer low-cost transport in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Company-operated red buses continue to provide low-fare transport in central Baghdad, serving areas including Sura Square, Shorja and Bab al-Muazzam. The buses are also used on routes connecting Karkh and Rusafa. Passengers said the service is an affordable option, especially for residents with limited incomes. One passenger said a trip between Sira al-Nasr and Bab al-Muazzam costs 500 dinars. Passengers also said they sometimes wait more than 15 minutes at stops and want more buses added to the service. They called for improvements to the network. The article said the Transport Minister opened Baghdad’s fifth public transport line two years ago, with the aim of extending the red buses to all parts of the city.
