First pilgrim from Kurdistan Region dies in Medina

ERBIL, Iraq — The Kurdistan Region’s General Directorate of Hajj and Umrah said the first pilgrim from the region to die in Saudi Arabia was Duhok resident Ahmed Said Nuri Birfekani, who died in Medina early Friday morning. The directorate said Birfekani had traveled from Mecca to Medina on Sunday after completing the Hajj rituals. It said his death occurred in Medina. No further details were immediately available.
