Wheat fire burns 15 dunams of farmland near Tuz Khurmatu

TUZ KHURMATU, Iraq — A fire broke out in a wheat field on the Barjuwali road east of Tuz Khurmatu district in Salah al-Din, burning about 15 dunams of cultivated land, a local source said. The flames spread quickly because of high temperatures and dry grass in the area. Civil defense teams responded to the scene and stopped the blaze from reaching nearby fields, the source said. No deaths or injuries were reported, and the damage was limited to crop loss. Authorities opened an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the damage. The incident came a day after a similar fire in Hawija district in Kirkuk damaged 22 dunams of wheat.
