Qatar Says Freedom of Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz Is Non-Negotiable

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a principle that cannot be subject to bargaining, underscoring the waterway’s importance for regional security and trade. Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman discussed efforts to secure peace and stability in the region during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. The minister reiterated Qatar’s support for reaching a comprehensive agreement that would end the crisis and called on all parties to respond positively to those efforts. He said such an outcome remains essential to easing tensions and stabilizing the region. The two sides also stressed the importance of observing the rules of international law and the principles of good neighborliness. They said the interests of the peoples of the region should be taken into account in any effort to address the crisis.
