The Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed that the number of registered vehicles in the country has exceeded 7 million. Most vehicles on the roads are private cars, according to the ministry.
Ministry officials said traffic cameras installed in city centers and along busy routes have substantially reduced accidents. Accident rates fell by approximately half after the camera system was activated.
The cameras have also become the primary tool for detecting violations, particularly speeding and red light infractions. The ministry said it plans to expand the network with new checkpoints and additional cameras while continuing public awareness campaigns for drivers.
Traffic safety measures will remain in place, according to the statement.
