Lieutenant General Mohammed Qasim al-Fadh appointed commander of Iraq's Federal Police

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Lieutenant General Mohammed Qasim al-Fadh has been appointed commander of Iraq's Federal Police Forces, taking over from his most recent role leading the Special Division that secures the Green Zone. Security analysts described him as a career officer who has held both field and administrative posts across multiple divisions of the Federal Police. Al-Fadh began his command career as commander of the 3rd Brigade within the 1st Division and later led the 17th and 18th Brigades under the 5th Division. He subsequently headed the 1st Division, the Mechanized Division and the 4th Division. He was appointed Wasit police director on November 9, 2022, and moved to the post of Federal Police Forces Chief of Staff on March 10, 2026, before being assigned to the Special Division. On assuming command, al-Fadh conducted an early-morning field inspection of Federal Police units deployed along the "Ya Hussein" route between Babil and Karbala. Analysts said his prior brigade and division-level experience is expected to support the force's operational performance. No further details on the transition were immediately available.
