DUBLIN โ Irish police said on Friday they recovered what they described as an "extremely dangerous" explosive device inside a vehicle near the Northern Ireland border. Officers stopped the car and detained a woman in her twenties driving it, while a man in his forties was arrested later in connection with the investigation.
Ireland's Police Commissioner Justin Kelly described the seizure as a "significant operation," and police officials said the device had the capacity to cause substantial damage. The operation was directed at activities linked to splinter groups that have broken away from republican paramilitary organizations, according to the police.
Investigators said the incident may be connected to small groups that have split from mainstream republican structures. The investigation is continuing in coordination with cross-border security agencies, police said.
