Technology researcher M1Astra has identified hidden code strings inside the iOS 27 developer build that reference foldable device behavior, according to findings reported by Turkish media. The code indicates the system can detect when a device is folded, measure its opening angle and determine the number of active displays.
The discoveries add weight to long-running rumors that Apple is preparing a foldable iPhone. Analysts covering the leak say the company could unveil its first such model at its annual September event, though Apple has not made an official announcement.
The foldable phone segment has been led for more than five years by Samsung and Huawei, and Apple's entry could reshape competition in the market. Apple demonstrated its design priorities last year with the iPhone Air, which measured roughly 5.6 millimeters in thickness. Estimates based on the leak suggest that joining two similarly thin displays would produce a folded thickness of around 11.2 millimeters, potentially making the device slimmer than most current foldables.
No further details on specifications, pricing or a release date have been confirmed, and Apple has yet to comment on the leak.
