BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Deputy Parliament Speaker Farhad Amin Atroushi called on Monday for permanent solutions to the displacement crisis in the country, saying the Kurdistan Regional Government's response should serve as a model. In a written statement marking World Humanitarian Day, Atroushi said the regional administration has delivered basic services to hundreds of thousands of displaced people and refugees in coordination with the federal government and international organizations.
Atroushi stressed the need to strengthen coordination between Baghdad and Erbil and to maintain international support for displaced families. He called for conditions that would allow displaced Iraqis to return to their home areas with dignity and safety.
The statement comes amid continuing concerns over displacement camps in the Kurdistan Region. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees said earlier this year that roughly 110,000 displaced people are housed in 21 camps across the region, adding that it is working with partners to provide essential health and education services and to support efforts toward durable, dignified returns.
