TEHRAN, Iran โ U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday evening that very large quantities of oil are moving through the Strait of Hormuz, with U.S. officials describing an undisclosed American military operation along an Omani coastal corridor in the south of the strait aimed at keeping oil flows moving. U.S. officials said a corridor for entry and exit has been established and that control of the southern corridor has been maintained for two months.
The officials reported that 15 to 20 tankers are passing through daily, with exports reaching roughly 10 million barrels per day, about half the volume moved before the war. On Monday night, U.S. forces shot down eight Iranian drones and two cruise missiles, according to the officials. U.S. Central Command said 65 commercial vessels have been diverted since the naval blockade against Iran resumed on July 14.
Trump said the maritime blockade against Iran is effective and that negotiating with Tehran would be a waste of time, while adding that talks could resume at some point and that oil prices would fall substantially once the Iran crisis ends.
