ERBIL, Iraq — The Kurdistan Region’s Health Ministry said no local malaria cases have been recorded in the region. Health Minister Saman Berzenci said there is currently no malaria in the region and that only one person who came from outside was treated in Sulaymaniyah and fully recovered.
Berzenci said malaria can carry a high death rate if diagnosis and treatment are delayed. He said health teams have increased field inspections.
The minister also urged citizens during Eid al-Adha not to slaughter animals in homes or unauthorized places and to use only licensed state slaughterhouses.
He said all health institutions under the ministry, along with emergency units and blood banks, continue to operate around the clock.
