Trump names Tom Barrack as special presidential envoy to Iraq

WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he has appointed Tom Barrack as special presidential envoy to Iraq. Trump said Barrack will continue in his role for Syria and Iraq. Barrack will remain U.S. ambassador to Turkey and carry out the new assignment with the full support of the State Department, according to the announcement. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday that Barrack’s post as special envoy for Syria had ended, but that his role toward Damascus and Baghdad would continue. Barrack has been the United States’ main representative on Syria since May 2025, while also serving as U.S. ambassador to Turkey.
