Kurdistan Region Reports 178 Drowning and Fire Incidents Since Start of Year

ERBIL, Iraq — The Kurdistan Region General Directorate of Civil Defense recorded 178 incidents of drowning and fire since the beginning of the year. Spokesperson Sirkot Karsh stated that these figures include 23 drowning cases and 155 fire-related emergencies. Data for 2025 shows a total of 12,345 various incidents recorded throughout the year. These included 9,402 fires and 508 instances of flooding. Karsh reported that 85 people died in these incidents, with 68 of those fatalities resulting from drowning. Erbil province accounted for 26 of the total drowning cases.
