Karbala council member alleges irregularities in project tenders

KARBALA, Iraq — Karbala Provincial Council member Majid al-Maliki said he has evidence of financial and legal irregularities in the tendering of some projects in the city. He called on Prime Minister Ali Zeydi to form a specialist committee to review previous state contracts. Al-Maliki also urged a review of the procedures used to allocate state land to investors inside and outside the city. He said public money and state land had been wasted on some projects, and that some of the projects had no economic value. A day earlier, Zeydi ordered the formation of a High Council for Integrity and Public Oversight to monitor public corruption and losses in state funds.
