Iraq’s General Maritime Company wins IMO compliance certificate

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s General Maritime Company, a state body under the Ministry of Transport, has been awarded a compliance certificate confirming it meets International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements, the company said in a statement. According to the company, the certificate was issued by a France-based classification society after technical inspections and assessments against international maritime standards were successfully completed. The company said the document is critical to ensuring maritime safety, preventing Iraqi vessels from being detained at foreign ports, and allowing global trade to proceed without legal obstacles. General Director Ahmed Jasim described the certificate as a reflection of the company’s commitment to international maritime safety standards, management systems and quality benchmarks, and said it aligns with its determination to operate in line with IMO regulations.
