Man arrested after armed robbery attempt at massage center in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A man was arrested in Baghdad's Karrada district on Saturday after attempting an armed robbery at a Chinese massage center, police said. The Baghdad Police Command's Rusafa division said the suspect was apprehended by officers from the Karrada Homicide Division, who had set up a stakeout in the area and caught him at the scene. According to the police statement, a knife used in the attack was recovered from the suspect. Security camera footage showed him entering the center, threatening a receptionist with the knife and stealing her gold, before taking cash from drawers and attempting to flee. Patrol teams waiting nearby intercepted the man as he tried to escape, the statement said. He was detained and referred for judicial proceedings. Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. No further details were immediately available.
