Iraqi Seamen Union Calls for Urgent Diplomacy Over Detained Mariners

The Iraqi Seamen Union has called for urgent diplomatic action over the status of Iraqi mariners detained near Iranian waters, saying it is closely following the case after a ship incident near Iran’s Qeshm Island. The union said the priority is to confirm the personnel’s safety and secure their return to Iraq. In a statement, the union said it is coordinating with official authorities to verify the crew’s condition. It stressed that the mariners seized by U.S. forces were serving on foreign-flagged vessels, not on Iraqi-flagged ships. The union said this makes the case more complex and requires immediate action from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry and diplomatic channels to ensure the crew can return safely. It added that it stands in solidarity with the families of the seamen. The union said it will continue to follow the case until all details are clarified and the crew’s wellbeing is guaranteed. It also said diplomatic procedures are expected to be accelerated to secure the release of the detained personnel.
