THE HAGUE โ€” Eighty-two of the 125 member states of the International Criminal Court voted on Friday to remove Prosecutor Karim Khan from office, following an investigation into sexual harassment allegations against a staff member that Khan has repeatedly denied. The court's top governing body had suspended Khan's duties in June 2026 pending the completion of a United Nations inquiry into the allegations. The UN investigation concluded there was evidence Khan had engaged in non-consensual sexual contact with a staff member at his office, his private residence and during a mission. A separate three-judge committee later assessed that the inquiry did not contain sufficiently precise findings to justify removal. Khan had temporarily stepped aside in May 2025 until the investigation was concluded. The unprecedented nature of the suspension prompted the court to develop new internal procedures governing such cases.
