Iraqi Navy forces rescued four Iraqi fishermen after their boat sank near the Basra oil port, in an operation that highlighted maritime safety and search-and-rescue duties in the area. The Navy said the men were recovered alive and their condition was confirmed to be good after first aid was administered.
The Iraqi Navy Command said the rescue followed a distress call from a fishing boat that sank near the Basra oil port. Acting on directives from the Army General Staff, the P-310 patrol boat, which was on protection duty in the STS (ship-to-ship) loading zone, was dispatched quickly to the scene.
The team reached the area in a short time and located the crew of the sinking vessel. They were pulled from the water and given immediate first aid.
The Iraqi Navy said the operation was part of its responsibilities to ensure maritime security in its areas of responsibility and to carry out search and rescue missions.
