Iraqi court sentences six ISIS members to death, including alleged Anbar emir

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's National Security Advisory said the Karkh Criminal Court sentenced six people to death, including the self-styled ISIS emir of Anbar, for membership in the terrorist organization and involvement in armed attacks. According to the advisory, the defendants were captured through intelligence operations and referred to the judiciary, where investigations established their links to the group. The court convicted them of ISIS membership, armed terrorist acts and possession of weapons intended to spread fear among the public, the security body said. Evidence presented during the proceedings connected the defendants to the alleged crimes, it added. The advisory said the verdict reflects ongoing efforts to bring ISIS-linked individuals to justice and stressed that security forces would continue intelligence operations aimed at dismantling the group's remaining networks.
