ANBAR, Iraq โ€” Former Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani issued a statement strongly condemning attacks targeting headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), describing the strikes as a clear violation of Iraqi sovereignty and of international law and the United Nations Charter. Sudani noted that the timing of the attacks raised serious questions, pointing out that they came as the Iraqi government had formally established official investigation committees to examine claims related to drones. He reiterated the state's commitment to addressing matters through legal and institutional channels and called for avoiding military escalation. The former prime minister stressed that Iraq fully preserves its legitimate right to self-defense under international law, including Article 51 of the UN Charter. He said any interference with the country's security, sovereignty or the safety of its people is unacceptable and cannot go unanswered.
