Iraq Traffic Directorate to Introduce New Driver’s License Exam System

Iraq’s General Traffic Directorate said it will soon implement a new method for driver’s license examinations across all provinces, with the system expected to take effect in the coming days or months. The overhaul is intended to modernize testing procedures and strengthen the licensing process. Under the new system, candidates will first take an electronic theoretical exam before moving on to practical tests conducted in a designated field. The official said the testing method has been substantially revised and will use electronic signs and ground sensors at the test area. The directorate said there will be no change in driver’s license fees. It also said vehicles from the 2025 and 2026 model years will be brought into service for the examinations. Officials said the new plan will be applied uniformly in all provinces, marking a nationwide shift in how driving tests are administered.
