Iraq signs water management cooperation deal with Turkish firm Kolay Soft

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Ministry of Water Resources said on Sunday it signed a memorandum of understanding with Turkish company Kolay Soft to develop smart water management and accelerate digital transformation. Water Resources Minister Muthenna Al-Tamimi signed the agreement to establish a joint framework for smart management of water resources, the ministry said. Al-Tamimi pointed to the importance of the deal in the face of climate change and rising water consumption, stressing that the memorandum does not impose any financial burden or obligation on the ministry. Under the agreement, integrated systems will be set up to monitor and measure groundwater and surface water and collect data, drawing on the Turkish company's experience. The cooperation also covers remote meter reading and sensor technologies, training programs for ministry staff, and the development of digital transformation systems. A geographic information system will be established to map water resources and facilities, with data integrated into digital platforms, according to the ministry.
