MOSUL, Iraq โ€” An Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Hospital was officially opened in Mosul on Tuesday, adding a dedicated facility for cancer treatment and nuclear medicine to Ninewa's health infrastructure. The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Control, Fazil Havi Mezban; the Prime Minister's nuclear energy adviser, Dr. Hamid al-Bahili; the deputy health minister; the Ninewa governor; the provincial health director; and members of the provincial council. The facility is equipped with linear accelerators for advanced radiotherapy and a CT simulator for tumor detection and radiation dose planning. It also includes 33 fully equipped inpatient rooms for patients receiving radiation and chemotherapy treatment. Speaking at a joint press conference, Mezban said the opening represents a step toward strengthening the country's health infrastructure and its capacity in nuclear medicine. He stressed that the wider use of nuclear and radiological techniques in medicine requires an effective regulatory system aligned with national and international standards. No further details on the hospital's operating capacity or treatment timelines were immediately available.
