BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's dissolution and integration commission has taken full custody of files, personnel, weapons, equipment and vehicles belonging to the Imam Ali Battalions as part of efforts to bring armed groups under state control, the Security Media Cell said. The commission's chairman, Lt. Gen. Kays al-Muhammawi, oversaw the process in person, with commission members and brigade commanders present for the handover.
The commission said the transfer is intended to complete the dissolution of the Imam Ali Battalions and their integration into Iraq's security forces, along with the removal of all alternative names and titles. The move falls within the government's broader effort to consolidate weapons and armed formations exclusively under the official state security structure.
The Security Media Cell described the handover as part of ongoing steps to strengthen stability. No further details on the timeline or remaining armed factions in the commission's queue were immediately available.
