Old war remnants found at abandoned gas facility in Baghdad's Rusafa area

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad's Rusafa district said old war remnants were discovered at an abandoned gas facility in the Zulfiqariya area. The Rusafa Police Command said in a written statement that the Zulfiqariya Police Section and emergency response patrols carried out the operation with the involvement of an intelligence unit and forces responsible for the area. Items seized at the site included ammunition of various calibers and smoke grenades, according to the statement. An explosives specialist was called in to defuse unexploded ordnance and secure the area. The police command said the necessary legal procedures are being handled by the relevant police station and that the investigation remains ongoing. No further details were immediately available.
