BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's General Traffic Directorate has begun installing and operating fixed and mobile radars along the main highways connecting cities across the country to Karbala, the directorate said in a written statement. The measures are aimed at improving traffic safety and protecting lives, particularly during periods of heavy vehicle and visitor movement.
According to the directorate, the new radar systems are designed to deter speeding and other traffic violations that can lead to accidents when congestion increases on routes to the holy city. Officials said the modern equipment is expected to strengthen traffic discipline and provide a higher level of safety for road users.
The General Traffic Directorate called on drivers to comply with legal speed limits and traffic rules, and to help maintain orderly movement on the roads. The statement added that adherence to the regulations would help ensure that travelers and visitors reach Karbala safely. No further details on the rollout timeline or number of devices being deployed were immediately available.
