Iraq formally approves Apple as authorized digital platform

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Media and Communications Commission has formally approved Apple as an authorized digital platform to operate across the country. Commission Chief Executive Belig Abu Kell said Apple has met all licensing requirements set out in the framework regulation governing digital platforms and services. Under the approval, Apple was classified as a trusted digital service provider for the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Arcade and Apple Ads. Abu Kell said the services can be offered within the framework of existing Iraqi law after the commission found the technical and legal requirements had been satisfied. The official said the vetting of global digital platforms is part of a strategy to bring international companies into compliance with Iraqi regulations, protect user rights and support the digital economy. The commission said it will continue licensing and approval processes with other major global companies, regulate electronic payment operations and strengthen Iraq's position in the digital economy.
