Saudi official says kingdom monitoring Iraqi groups' attack preparations

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — A Saudi official said intelligence reports indicate that some Iraqi armed groups, directed by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps and coordinated by the Houthis, are preparing imminent attacks against the kingdom, according to the agency that relayed the remarks. The official said drone and missile shipments had been detected, pointing to the possibility of coordinated attacks from the north and south. The official added that potential attacks could target civilian and economic facilities, energy infrastructure, ports and airports. Riyadh stressed it would take all necessary measures against any attack. The Saudi official expressed surprise at the reports of such attack preparations while de-escalation efforts and the search for a peaceful solution continue, noting that Saudi Arabia remains in contact with all parties, including Iran, to encourage mediation. Eastern sources reported separately that Iraqi armed groups had temporarily frozen their decision to respond to Saudi Arabia and are demanding an apology and compensation. Iraq's Security Media Cell said Prime Minister Ali Zaydani has ordered a nationwide increase in security and combat readiness.
