Iraq customs stops four trucks carrying smuggled cigarettes in central region

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s Customs Authority said on Tuesday that it stopped an attempt to smuggle large quantities of cigarettes in the central region and detained four trucks. The authority said the operation was carried out by the investigation and anti-smuggling unit under the Central Region Customs Directorate. It said the cigarette cargoes had been prepared for smuggling. According to the statement, the operation followed field tracking and intensive intelligence work. It was carried out with support from the National Security Service and the Customs Police.
