WASHINGTON, United States โ Political analyst Rafed al-Atwani stated that plans are underway to integrate members of the Saraya al-Salam militia into the Federal Police or other official Iraqi security institutions. This transition is reportedly occurring alongside efforts to sever the group's ties with the Popular Mobilization Forces.
According to al-Atwani, the decision reflects a broader objective to consolidate state control over weaponry and move away from the armed structures that emerged after 2003. He noted that the move aligns with the government's goal of limiting military authority to official state institutions.
Al-Atwani added that clear messages regarding the dissolution of ties between Muqtada al-Sadr and Saraya al-Salam have been communicated to Washington. He stated that he does not currently anticipate the formation of any new armed groups in the near future.
