Iraq, Britain Discuss British ISIS Prisoners Held in Iraqi Jails

Iraqi Justice Minister Khalid Shwani met British Ambassador to Baghdad Ifran Siddiq to discuss the status of British ISIS members held in Iraq’s correctional facilities and the broader judicial and legal ties between the two countries. The talks also focused on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The two sides reviewed the condition of British prisoners held in Iraq’s rehabilitation institutions and examined transfer mechanisms under the memorandums on prisoner exchange between Iraq and Britain. The file of prisoners transferred from Syria to Iraq was also discussed. Shwani stressed the need to strengthen international cooperation so the relevant countries can receive their nationals from Iraq’s rehabilitation institutions in accordance with the legal framework and bilateral agreements. He said such coordination is necessary to manage these cases through official channels. Siddiq expressed Britain’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Iraq’s Ministry of Justice and providing support in various shared areas. The meeting also underscored efforts to develop judicial and legal relations between Baghdad and London.
