Iraqi Environment Minister Surev Abdulwahid said the government will launch a national campaign to reduce plastic use and replace it with environmentally friendly alternatives. The initiative is based on a Council of Ministers decision and is intended to gradually lower plastic consumption nationwide.
Abdulwahid said the campaign will be implemented in stages, with the goal of cutting dependence on plastic products over time. He called on government institutions, media outlets and citizens to support the effort.
The ministry said the move is meant to address the health and environmental damage caused by plastic use. No further timetable or enforcement measures were announced.
