Iranian Border Guards Repel Attack in West Azerbaijan Province

Iranian border guards repelled an attempted attack on a military post in the city of Chaldoran, located in the country's West Azerbaijan province. Border Guard Commander Ali Akbar Javdan stated that intelligence and surveillance efforts allowed forces to identify the plot before it could be carried out. Security forces engaged the attackers with heavy gunfire, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. According to initial reports, other participants in the attack were wounded and retreated toward a neighboring country. During the operation, authorities recovered an M16 rifle, five magazines, two hand grenades, a mobile phone, and a backpack containing personal equipment.
