Iran says 28 ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz in 24 hours

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Sunday that 28 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz in a 24-hour period. The vessels included oil tankers, container ships and other commercial ships, according to the statement. The Guards' navy said the ships crossed the waterway with permission and under the coordination and security of its naval units. It described the figure as the highest number of crossings announced in a single day through the strait in recent period. The statement said a system of "smart control" was continuing over the strait. It added that crossings made without coordination would be treated as violations.
